FIRST-YEAR CALENDAR · UK

First-year beekeeping calendar for UK beginners.

Beekeeping is seasonal, but dates are not rigid. Weather, forage, region and colony condition matter more than a fixed calendar. Use this as a planning framework, then respond to what your bees are actually doing.

Late winter and early spring

Prepare equipment, check stores without unnecessary disturbance and get ready for the first suitable inspection. Once conditions allow, establish a baseline for queen evidence, brood, stores and colony strength.

Spring build-up

Colonies can expand quickly. Watch space, brood development and swarm preparation. Have supers and swarm-control equipment ready before they become urgent.

Summer

Manage space, queen events, honey supers and Varroa monitoring. Keep records of what you actually find because neighbouring colonies can develop very differently.

Late summer and autumn

Plan Varroa management, assess stores and colony strength, complete feeding where needed and resolve equipment issues before winter.

Winter

Disturb colonies as little as practical, monitor stores and use the quieter period to review the season. HiveIQ is designed to turn that year of inspections into a history you can use when spring starts again.

TRUSTED DIGITAL HISTORY

The mentor that knows your hive starts with a reliable record.

HiveIQ is not designed to replace practical training, an experienced beekeeper or official bee-health guidance. It is designed to remember the observations, photographs, actions and decisions that make your colony different from a generic beekeeping question.
