Get local advice before ordering
Your association or mentor can help you understand suitable local sources, timing and what equipment you need ready before collection.
Ask what you are actually buying
Confirm the hive-frame format, approximate colony size, queen age or origin where known, whether she is marked, recent health and Varroa management, and what food stores are present.
Inspect the colony history, not just the box
A nuc can look strong on collection day while still having an important recent queen or health event. A trustworthy seller should be willing to explain its recent history.
Plan the first weeks
Know how the nuc will be transferred, whether feeding may be needed and when the first inspection is appropriate. Avoid unnecessary disturbance immediately after a move.
This is where a Hive Passport becomes useful
HiveIQ Passport is designed so a seller can transfer selected queen, inspection and treatment history with the colony while keeping private apiary information private.
