Start locally
The British Beekeepers Association has a directory of local associations in England, and equivalent national associations can help in Scotland and Wales. Many local groups run taster sessions, beginner courses and mentoring.
Look for practical handling
A useful course should get you around live colonies as well as covering theory. Handling frames, using a smoker and recognising normal brood are physical skills that become clearer with supervised practice.
Use a mentor for judgement
An experienced beekeeper can help you interpret what is normal for your area and season, especially around swarm control, queen events and winter preparation.
Give your mentor better context
The value of HiveIQ is continuity. Instead of trying to remember what happened three inspections ago, you can keep the colony history, photographs, actions and queen events together.
Useful starting point
Use the BBKA “Find Beekeeping Near You” directory to find local support in England. HiveIQ remains independent and does not replace association, veterinary or official bee-health guidance.
